So we just got home from our first family vacation at 4 am Tuesday morning. We left the Tuesday July 6th spent two days in Sioux City Iowa with my grandparents and then we went to Black Hills to spend the rest of our time. We visited Reptile Gardens, Dinosaur Park, Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Devil's Tower, The Badlands, a Gold Mine, Wall Drug, and Murdo Car Museum. Carley did pretty well with riding in the car during our long car rides. We stayed in Lead so everywhere we visited was at least an hour away. We did travel at night only on the way back as we drove the 13 hours in one shot. The kids had a great time and I am still trying to clean out from vacation and recooperate as it was exhausting but totally worth it. Also the husband enjoyed himself and is already talking about places we can visit next year so I think our first family vacation was a huge success.

How fun! We will be driving from Indiana to Georgia next month and spending the week with my in-laws on Tybee Beach (sp?). I know that may sound like a nightmare, but I'm really looking forward to it! I lucked out with awesome in-laws. My question for y'all--what do you do to entertain the littles on long car rides? We will be leaving in the early evening, so a good part of the trip will be spent sleeping, but we've still got that first leg to think about.

Wow! You guys were busy! We leave for our famiy vacation two weeks from today. My girls are at the age of wanting to rip eachother's heads off (12 & 9), so I'm not exactly looking forward to the that, but am looking forward to the trip itself. We will be attending a family wedding and then hanging out with my sister-in-law and family for the rest of the week, so I'm super excited about that. Roman is super nosey, so he won't sleep in his stroller, which makes for an incredible crabby baby, so we'll have to work around that. Sounds like you had a successful trip! Thanks for sharing! :)

OMG...that baby donkey is THE cutest thing I've seen in a long time!! Carley is so cute, and I'm jealous she got to pet that little guy! Congrats on the trip, and I'm glad it was a success, especially with your large crew. I'm dreading having to pack for 2 dogs and 2 babies Labor Day weekend (well, leaving the dogs with friends, but still have to pack them up!) We're going on our annual beach trip, and I'll be nursing a 3 week old. Ugh. Not looking forward to that....or packing the pump, bottles (ugh, we'll be BACK in bottles AGAIN), 2 pack and plays, etc, etc. BUT, I love the beach, so hopefully it's all worth it :) As far as entertaining??? We have a mirror in front of Payton (still sitting backwards in her carseat), give her lots of books, her blankie, some toys, and she seems to be okay. We haven't ventured farther than 3 hours away, though...maybe a DVD player? Crayons and paper?

Oh no. The photos are gone. They were so cute. I was going to suggest that the photos there should be your family photos! We prefer the vacation/life photos to studio sittings, but the studio ones came out really nice too. I was going to post a photo of us in Fiji but can't seem to figure out how to get pictures up. Should I post for the 3rd time how much I hate the new format? I guess there goes the photos of Mika's new toddler room too. Fiji was great though. The people are so nice. The waitresses would take Mika and carry her around to introduce her to everyone and she was so happy with all the kisses and attention. She learned to say Bula--their greeting--and claps her hands when she sees someone she thinks is Fijian here. Instead of a stroller we took her to nap in an ocean kayak--she'd fall asleep with her fingers in the water. Plus she loved the water slide at the hotel and did great at restaurants. Even though she doesn't eat that much we couldn't help ordering her own meal at places. Maybe I'll be able to get some photos up at some point. We saw some of the warriors from our wedding on 7-8-9 and they were so happy to have Mika--"a Fiji baby" from our wedding--to play with. I miss breakfast buffets and free bottled Fiji water and lounging by the pool. At least we got to move to a new place when we came back.
