Got an upsetting call yesterday saying my risk for Downs was elevated. Apparently the bloodwork/ultrasound test put me at 1/108 risk instead of the normal 1/350. I'm 31, but it's the same risk category as a 37 year old. I have another ultrasound in two weeks to look for markers. Completely scaredd about this, as I was not expecting it, but I'm reading that these tests (which are just screenings, not diagnoses) are highly inaccurate. Anyone able to relate?

Those tests are never absolute. Even someone with a 1/108 chance of having a child with Down's has a 107/108 chance of having a perfectly healthy baby -- that's over 99%. The odds are in your favor, so don't give up hope yet.

Like the girls said this tests are very inacurate, My sister inlaw got told that my niece was going to have downsindrome because her head was to big, etc.. My mom told my sister inlaw not to worry because when my mom was pregnant with my brother (her husband) the doctors told her the samething (they just got big heads) LOL but yeah my sister inlaw was very scared into my mom explained, my niece was born perfectly healthy. I also know of a few people that have gone tru the same situation so i would say forget the tests and leave it in Gods hands. God bless you

I agree with Joisky! Leave it in God's hands! Plus, children with Down's Syndrome are amazing angels that have a LOT to give to the world! My cousin Heather will be 5 in May, has Down's and has been the biggest blessing to our family!

Thanks for the support, ladies. I know it's most definitely not the worst thing that can happy, you just worry so much anyway with your pregnancy, especially your first. My husband took the news well--not really even news, just ridiculous crap to make us worry, and he is helping me be strong. You just always want things to be perfect, ya know?
