So we are considering a few different names and I am wondering what people think about using a foreign spelling of a name but using the english pronunciation- we like both but figure it will be easier on him to go with the english pronunciation.
This is not one of the name but demonstrates the idea pretty well (the real name would employ the same double "A")
so the spelling would be Christiaan (chris- tea-ahn) but we would pronounce it Christian.
Does this make sense? is it confusing?

I feel like I would be led to misprounounce it. Christiaan, emphasizing the ahn sound at the end.

I would also pronounce it as it's spelled. I would also be afraid it might constantly be mispelled.

Christiaan is a lovely name. Kids grow up feeling good when they are given a great name and especially if it's a little different. (in pronunciation as well) I personally like the aa sound at the end. Just a thought.

My name always threw people, especially my last because it isn't pronounced how it's spelled. But people always mess up my first name Kayleigh. I loved having a different name and passed on the same uniqueness to my daughter. I named her Paetan (Payton) because I wanted a different spelling. I say go for it and encourage him to embrace the unique name and he'll have the confidence growing up.
