Ear infections

Ava has now had 4 ear infections!  My DS will be 8 in June and has yet to get 1.  Anyone else dealing with multiple infections? Experience with tubes? Pedi said if it was November (going into winter months) he would refer us to ENT, but since we are entering summer we are going to wait for now.  Said he usually refers to ENT if they have over 4 infections per season. So, if Ava gets another this summer we will be going to ENT.  I have heard both good and bad with ear tubes.  I don't like hearing that kids have to go thru multiple surgeries if they keep getting infections after the tubes have been placed. Then a girl at work told me her son has had tubes put in 3 times and he still has 10 infections/year.  Plus the last infection got so bad around the tube that the dr pulled the tube out (while kid was awake). Girl at work said it was the most horrible thing ever- since scar tissue formed around it.

But I know success rate is different for each kid.  I hope it doesn't get to that point for Ava.

Aww that's no good. :-(

I talked to Tiana on facebook yesterday and it sounds like Haven is going through the same thing. Poor babies.

I grew up with some kids that always had ear infections and had to get the tubes, but I really don't know much about it. Keep us posted tho!

Popping in from January 2009. Our DS had ear infections for a month straight and antibiotics didn't help. He was eight months old and not sleeping through the night. We decided, on our own, to visit the ENT. My niece had ear infections and the pedi kept giving antibiotics, so we decided not to let our son suffer. The ENT said that tubes were recommended and he had them in at 9 months old. The first day he was more like a newborn, very wobbly, etc. but he was like a whole new kid after the tubes! He has had 1 ear infection since the tubes and that was just recently because of the wacky weather! The surgery is done within an hour and you get to see them shortly after it is done. He also sleeps well at night. HTH and if you have more questions, just ask.
