My baby boy is three weeks old and has started having complications with my breastmilk. The past three days after he eats, he begins to run a low grade fever and throw everything he eats right back up. Then a few hours later his fever is gone and he is no longer throwing up till he eats breastmilk again. I called his doctor and they told me to give him pedialite every half hour and he has kept that down just fine. I need help I feel like my breastmilk is poisoning my baby, has anyone else had this kind of problem.

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry for the poor little fella. I've heard of babies having allergies to formula and lactose intolerance but never have I heard of a baby not being able to digest breastmilk. Did the doctor suggest that maybe something in your diet isn't agreeing with him?

I'm going to have to agree with choc_dreams. It definitely may be something in your diet that's not agreeing with the baby. Prior to you calling your lactation nurse or La Leche representative, try to remember what you had to eat within the past 3 days. This is a question I'm pretty sure they will ask you. Hope this helps!

I would think it could be something that you're eating, DEFINANTLY call a lactation consultant ASAP to see what they suggest.

According to my mom, i did this as a baby. To this day I have a horrible dairy intolerance. I had only soy milk from birth until now. We are all different, that's what makes us all the same. congratulations on your little one.

May be a milk allergy (VERY rare, but it does happen) Your milk is specifically made for YOUR baby. I'd go with the great advice above and keep a VERY detailed food diary...what you eat, how much and when you eat...also a diary of when, how much your baby eats and your baby's reaction. Good luck!! And don't give up too quickly!! It may be a passing issue.

Also, when feeding your baby breast milk, stop half way through and burp him, then let him finish and burp him again. Make sure you follow up with your doctor, he'll want to get this solved.
