Alright ladies...its getting close to the day we've all been waiting for...and what else does that mean...CONTRACTIONS!!! I am not due till the end of March and have been having conractions for about a week now. So here is my question...while some of these contractions have been painful...most of them are not. I went to the doctor the other day and was repremanded for not going to be checked sooner...here is my issue with this...I can feel that I am having these painless contractions but they are so much harder to time since there is really no pain and then relief of pain. Is/ has anyone else had this issue? What do you do? I am kinda getting afraid that I will not know to go in till its too late!!!

Hey Caitlin, there are so many mixed messages about Braxton-Hicks. One Dr. says not to worry if they are not regular and go away upon changing positions, and another will repremand you for not coming in to get checked! (In your case)... As if we were't worried enough about EVERYTHING else. With my first baby, 10 years ago... I didn't have any. With this one also due at the end of March, I'm not sure. Sometimes when I do more work than usual, like laundry and sweep the garage, I get this heavy, tight feeling at the bottom of my belly, but it lasts pretty long. Not like come and go that I'd expect from a contraction. Is this anything like what you feel?

It's hard to know when it's time to head to the hospital unless you have done it before and even then you can still be unsure.

I say play it safe and go to the hospital. The worst thing they can do is send you home and tell you to keep waiting.

I have a friend that had her baby three weeks early. I went to pick her up for lunch on afternoon and she said "I feel funny" "I think you should take me to the hospital" I asked if she was feeling contractions and she said no but she felt like she was going to have the baby.

I took her in thinking we would be sent home. They checked her and sure enough, she was getting ready to have thaht baby! She was having contractions, but they were not painful to her.

You can always call the hospital and ask to speak to a nurse on duty, they can help you decide when it's time to go in.

Best Wishes, Can't wait for birth stories from you and nancy :)
