First Family Vacation....a little nervous

Next Friday (1/22) we leave for Florida. We will be visiting my sister and brother in law. My sister has seen Eliana twice, but my brother in law hasn't met her yet. I'm soooo excited for that. I know they will love eachother. My sister does not have kids and is 36, will be 37 this year. I'm not sure they will ever have kids. She always says the time has never been right. So, she LOVES to spoil everyone else's kids. We will be going to Disney for one day, and then just hanging out the rest of the week. I'm not nervous about any part of this trip, except the flying part! DH and I have flown before, and we are fine with that, but this will Eliana's first flight. My brother in law is a pilot, so I'm SURE it won't be her last :) It's only 2 hours and it's right at her nap time. I just hope she sleeps and isn't to interested in everything else that is going on. I plan on brining juice and formula for take off and landing and some snacks. I am going to buy her a few new "quiet" toys, so if she doesn't sleep she can be entertained. She just isn't the kind of baby that wants to be held for 2 hours. She likes to move and never sits still. That has me a little worried. I just hope she doesn't bother anyone around us, and I pray that she doesn't scream the whole time! Any ideas/tricks/suggestions from you ladies??

Sounds like so much fun!!  Good luck w/ the flying part.  We flew a lot when Emily and Matthew were babies because my ex husband's family lived in a different state.  For tips, definitely bring a small umbrella stroller for the airport, you are probably going to be sitting there for a couple hours and you're probably not going to want her crawling all around there.  Also when you first get to your gate go to the desk and tell them you have a baby, they will let people w/ small children on first because it takes longer to get on when you have a baby and you don’t want a bunch of people w/out kids to be inpatient w/ you while you get all settled into the plane.  The one "toy" I found that was the most entertaining when my kids were little on the plane was a handheld mirror.  I know, sounds strange but they got the biggest kick out of looking at their faces in a mirror.  I only let them play w/ it when we were on the plane so it was special but even when they were around 9 months they loved the mirror for entertainment.  Another thing I used to do, that some might think was strange, but it helped keep them entertained and lasted longer than just a usual snack, was put cheerios on a string, kind of like a candy necklace but don’t put it on her neck.  Then she has to chew them off and it takes more time than just eating them in handfuls, I don’t know, it worked for me, lol.  Also bring twice as much as you think you're going to need.  There are lots of things that can cause delays on the plane and in the airport so having more than you need is best so you don’t have to be short on diapers or formula if things get delayed.

I hope you have a great trip and the flight goes great.  Let's hope she sleeps through the whole thing!! :)

I nursed my 2 oldest kids when they were babies and we flew.  It helps to pop their ears, plus they usually fall asleep.  I also invested in a velcro strap that works like a leash for sippy cups.  it has a handle on one end and velcro fastener on the other so it will fit around any size sippy or bottle.  BRU started carrying them, but I think i originally got mine at Walgreens.  You can attach toys to it too!

Keep burp rags or recieving blankets within arms reach incase of a spill.  Mine loved to tip the drink right after the stewardess served it.

LOVE the Cheerios on a string idea!!!  I might start doing that for long car rides.

We've been on a lot of trips with Bella and it's never really as bad as we thought it could. I have nursed Bella during landings and take offs, until she refused to nurse, then we did bottles. We did have the issue with her not wanting to sleep because she wanted to watch everything instead but the flight attendants were nice enough to let us stand in the back of the plane so it wasn't that bad. Keep in mind flights are a lot more full so pack some toys in a small bag that can be put under the seat in front of you so it's easy to grab. I used paci straps to leash a couple of toys to Bella so she could toss them without me having to try to find them. I packed a light sweater just in case she got chilly. We had a carseat that snapped into the stroller but now that she's a big girl we've got to try something else. We're debating bringing her regular stroller or buying a cheap umbrella stroller. We already got a cheaper lighter carseat. We also used a carrier/sling when we got onto the plane so we were hands free when we walked down the aisle.

We're going on a plane trip at the end of the month so we're going to have to alter a couple of things. I think I'm going to try to string thing and I'm going to bring a sippy cup.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that there are no delays and everything goes smoothly. Have fun, it sounds like a great trip.
