Natural Family Planning Method After Giving Birth?

Anyone using the Natural Family Planning Method for birth control? Worked great in preventing pregnancy before we were ready and when we were ready for kiddos, we got preggo within two months of trying. Now I'd like to continue but a lot has changed. For one, my period hasn't returned, mostly because of the breastfeeding which also makes charting a challenge too. I've been reading up on it and found that there's a small chance of pregnancy/ovulating prior to the return of your period but there's still a chance. Would just love to hear some feedback from anyone who has/is currently using this method successfully.

I'm using the NFP method as well, using the Creighton Model.  No period yet either due to breast feeding.  At least I hope that's why no period, lol.

My SIL was preggo right away after her first born, so her first three are 13 and 14 months apart.  That's a little scary.

I have been charting for a couple weeks but have shown no signs of fertility.

Google Creighton Model Natural Family Planning or the Pope Paul VI institute.  I found my advisor through my Catholic Church and I know she consults with non Catholics.

Pope Paul Institute was INSTRUMENTAL in helping me maintain my pregnancy.  They found out about my low hormone levels before I miscarried, where other doctors would have waited till I miscarried a couple times before they even investigated the cause of the miscarriages.

I've used a method similair to that but i used the clear blue easy fertility monitor, the one that you can buy at the pharmacy for about $200- This device will tell you when it picks up the LH hormone & when it surges, that's when you're most likely to get pregnant.  You also have to buy test sticks for it, it's kinda like performing a pregnancy test.  The devise will tell you when to pee on the test stick & you put it in the monitor & it will tell you if you are fertile at all.  I know it's not fool proof, but I had my last 2 babies 16mo appart & as much as I'd love another, I'd like to wait 2-3yrs.

Yep. We use natural family method. It has worked great with us. We have our kids spaced just how we wanted them to be.

It worked great for us before getting pregnant and trying to get pregnant...my biggest concern right now is that until my period returns I'm a bit lost. I have the nfp textbook but I'm still a little foggy on the details. We've been checking my temp regularly each morning and except for explainable exceptions (ie being up already) my waking temp has been within .4 of a degree everyday...so I'm guessing now that I'm not ovulating...but other than than that is there anything else I should be watching. I've heard checking for 'mucus' isn't reliable while breastfeeding (not that I've had any either). So I really am relying on that spike (but doesn't that tell me I have ovulated...too late by then right?)

Any thoughts or advice so appreciated.

I've been charting since about 8 weeks using the Creighton model.  Haven't had any mucus or period.  Going to take a preg test 'just in case' but I'm breast feeding and don't think I'm pregnant.  I took two pee tests and both came out negative when I was carrying the Bean.

@thebeansmom So do you think it's safe to say that if I'm still breastfeeding and charting(with no significant changes in temp or signs of mucus)...that i'm pretty safe until my period returns? I so don't want to do birth control but the thought of having another child so close to my first doesn't seem fair to my newborn...so I want to do the responsible thing..yeah sort of rambling now...just don't care for the uncertainty..want to be confident that how we are approaching this is smart...as much as I don't care for my period I almost wish it would return so at least there would be a pattern I could follow

I think so.  That's what the NFP consultant told me.  They said I didn't have to start charting till I stopped BFing but since I wasn't sure how long I'd last BFing, I wanted to start right away and so I could get into the groove.

I know exactly how you feel.  I had severe endometriosis before I got pregnant and am 'hoping' it comes back to see if the pregnancy helped the endometriosis.  At this point, I'm only dealing with the pain of the cesaerean and not the pain of endo (I would pee blood around the time I'd ovulate).
