I have a ? for my sister she has 3 girls and is wondering what the going rate is for a babysitter. She has a 8 year old an 6 year old and a 4 year old.
If you could give an hourly rate and what state your in that would be great. She lives in Arizona.

I live in the South and the going rate here is $8/hr for one child and $10/hr for 2 children. The rate actually drops a little once both kids are in bed asleep. But, that's the average where I live.

Good information Christine! I have no idea what a baby sitter goes for in our area (Northern Nevada) because I have never used one. I know, silly, I have an almost 9 year old and she has never had a baby sitter. My sister lives in California and she pays her babysitter 10 an hour for one child. The sitter is in 9th grade. She has a sitter that is older and drives and she gets $15/hr. Tammy

Oh yes and I should add that all of my sitters are college students so they range in age from 19-22 years old pretty much. When first hiring them I ask what they charge and they've all quoted me the same as what I already pay so I assume that is the average for this area.

Hi Christine, How do you find your sistters? Are they all through someone you know? Just wondering. I promised my husband tht I would look for someone to help us out now and then and I just don't know where to start. Tammy

I found all of mine through Mommy friends of mine and church. I have one sitter who was referred by a friend and I've been using her for several years. Another one worked in the nursery at church so I met her that way. One was an after school helper at my son's private school for kids that needed to stay until 5:30pm and then I started using her roomate as well! So, it's all through word of mouth and just asking people I trust will refer me to someone trustworthy.
