Bug bites & poison oak....
3 years ago  ::  Jun 01, 2010 - 9:44AM #1

So obviously with summer approaching the mosquitos are coming out.  We have some woods in our backyard and Kara loves running down the path.  Sunday so got some mosquito bites on her, as soon as we noticed them we put bug spray on her.  Well those bug bite are still pretty swollen (and she is not itching them) they actually kinda look like welts.  she got 2 by her eye the one didnt seem to swell but the other one has cause her eye to swell up and it was small on sunday, a llittle bigger yesterday and now today under her eye is really swelled up! I'm waiting on the call from the nurse to see what I can give her to help with the swelling.  but now I wonder why she is reacting this way to the bite.  Brooke has a bad reaction but usually by the next day the swelling has gone down not gotten worse.  I was laying with her last night rubbing her head and felt a huge lump and it was another bite!  and to make it all worse yesterday after her shower I was getting ready to put her diaper on and noticed that she had a rash of some sort on her thigh, I showed my mom and mother in law and both of them said its either poison ivy or poison oak.  Thankfully she doesn't seem to bothered by it. but she is crabby!

Update  haha before I could even post this the nurse called back.  She said that if the swelling gets worse she may need to be seen but right now it seems that she will be okay and the swelling should go down.  and we can put cortison cream on her  bites  and to just keep and eye on her eye to make sure it doesn't get worse.  and we can put topical benadryl on her poison ivy/oak.  So basically thanks for listening to me complain a little.  I just feel bad for her because her looks pathedic.

Awe poor kiddo! Sometimes those bites look worse than they actually are, especially on the face like that. I love that topical benadryl. You could also give her the oral benadryl to help with the itching if she seems to need it, but otherwise the topical is great alone too :) She's such a doll! Like Elaine said on FB (pretty sure it was Elaine) LOVE that expression!

We live in the woods too and I can't stand the Mosquitos and the d**n ticks.  John got a bunch of Mosquito bites two weeks ago that swelled up and turned red like that and they still look like that.  I am using the benadryl cream on them but they don't seem to be bothering him they just look bad.
