The Anger

There has been discussion about the Tebow ad.

This might help explain some of what's going on as well...

It’s important for us to read this and realize the level of anger we are facing.

This from Tommy Craggs at DeadSpin:

"I’m guessing the Tebows’ ad, for spanky Jim Dobson’s Focus on the Family, will extol the glories of family and motherhood and the value of children and other seemingly innocuous fare; it will also be 30 seconds of anti-abortion dog-whistling to the Christian right on a frequency somewhere beyond the range of only CBS executives. The moral, implicit or otherwise, will be: don’t terminate your pregnancy; that blastocyst might turn into Tim Tebow.

"... But the Tebows’ message should be called for what it is, and what it is is outright quackery that doesn’t differ appreciably from my going on television with a toy stethoscope and urging America to start treating itself with leeches.
"

EXCUSE ME???

And then  the Center for Reproductive Rights, in a letter to CBS, is flat-out claiming Tebow’s mom is a liar!

Sign the  letter to CBS. Tell them not to give in to pressure and show the ad!

Quackery?  Really?  Ya know, it doesn't even matter to me if Tebow's mom IS lying.  The message is simple:  Please consider NOT terminating your pregnancy.  That's all.  It is beyond me why this has turned into such a big deal.

I have to say though, the more I think about it the more this bothers me:  WTF makes Tim Tebow any more special than any other un-aborted being?  It's really kind of a crappy ad for their cause.  Most mothers faced with this decision know that there's a pretty good chance their unborn child won't be someone famous.  And let's say hypothetically that she knew her child would be someone famous.  If she decides to NOT terminate her pregnancy based on that and ONLY that, that is HORRIBLE.

babygirlsx3 has a good point.  That's been bugging me too about this ad.  Being a football star doesn't make him better or more special than any other person.  I know plenty of people who didn't terminate pregnancies that were "high risk" or whatever, and none of them are getting tv commercials.  I get that it's because he's famous, but I would much rather see a REAL average person in a commercial like this.

I don't think  Tebow is considered any more special. He's just willing to stand up for his beliefs.

Remember a few years back the woman who had survived being an aborted fetus and was born and is now a woman??     Remember all the garbage she got for being pro life??

Gianna Jessen was aborted at 7½ months. She survived ...

Dec 4, 2005 ... Gianna Jessen was aborted at 7½ months. She survived. ... caused by her brain being starved of oxygen during the termination. ... Gently I put the question, if abortion is about women's rights, then where were mine? ...

www.telegraph.co.uk/.../Gianna-Jessen-was-aborted-at-7-months.-She-survived.-Astonishingly-she-has-forgiven-her-mother-for-trying-to-...

EXCERPT: The Sunday Telegraph revealed that the NHS-funded British Pregnancy Advisory Service was facilitating late abortions past the 24 week limit at a clinic in Spain. Last week, a study found that 50 babies a year live through termination in Britain.

For Miss Jessen, however, any time limit is irrelevant. "I don't believe in abortion, simply put," she says. "I do believe in adoption. The arguments for abortion are falling one by one.

Now, in one wing of the hospital, doctors are killing children in the womb while in another wing, they are desperately trying to save a baby of exactly the same size in a different womb. It makes no sense.

"Is my value based on what I can and can't do? If so, we're living in a very scary time."

How does the ad say that he is any more special than anyone else?  It simply is showing that this young man would have been needlessly killed, but his mother made a courageous decision and as a result here he is.  The fact that he is a star, has nothing to do w/the message IMO.  It just brings to light someone who most people watching the super bowl are going to know, and his personal story.

He is a wonderful young man from what I can tell, and an inspiration and role model for our kids.  I am not a FL fan at all, but I tell ya I almost rooted for them just because of what a great kid he is!  It takes a lot of strength and faith to be willing to do what he is doing right now, because I assure you every aspect of his life is being examined and attacked for it!

The ad isn't saying he is any more special than anyone else.  Nor was I implying that any of you believe that he is more special.  I was just saying the ad could have been just as effective and more realistic if it were a person like you or I.  Some people will see the ad and take this from it: the next aborted child could be someone famous that will do great things.  I'm just doubting that a woman faced with this decision would be swayed by it.  I'm merely judging the effectiveness of the ad.  I just think it's a weak ad aired during a television event that doesn't exactly target the appropriate audience.

All that said, this is my last post in this group because I forgot how quickly you all jump down our throats for something you interpretted wrong.

I am agreeing with you regarding Tebow not being more special.

The point I'm trying to get at is how when someone stands up for pro life there's much ado about it. That's why I posted the item about the woman who survived the abortion. When she first came on the scene there was such a ruckess over her. I'm not jumping down your throat. I'm sorry if you interpreted it that way.

I'm pointing out the attacks on the pro life advocates who speak up, That's all.
