My husband and I are. I have insurance but it doesn't cover anything dealing at all with pregnancy. My husband makes too much money for us to be qualified for medicaid (he's a teacher so even though its too much for medicaid it's still not much). The clinic where my doctor is located has payment plans, though still expensive, it will make it a little easier on us because we can pay a little bit at a time. I have been trying to keep my eyes open for extra coverage or something but havent found anything yet.

Have you applied for just the pregnant women's medicaid? It ONLY covers stuff to do with the pregnancy. We make too much to get any other kind of medicaid, but we were able to get that kind. I'm not certain what to tell you other than that. Sorry.

A friend of mine was covered by some sort of "pregnant women's only" coverage offered by the county/city....I can't remember what it was called. I would start searching the internet for your county or city's Dept of Health or Dept of Children or Families. Or ask the doc's office or hospital if they know of anywhere you can get assistance.

My cousin went on a monthly payment plan through her OB. Even though she had a C-Sec, the total cost of the whole procedure was broken off into somewhere around $400 payments, the whole thing came out to $3000. Some drs will give you a 10% discount if you pay for everything at one time in cash or on a credit card also rather than using a payment plan. You can try state medicaid for medically needy pregnancy coverage and see if you qualify. I used state medicaid and it covered my entire pregnancy, and will cover me for the postpartum period as well. It also covers any other health things that may come up while I am on the plan. Baring any complications, though, if you don't qualify for medicaid through your state, then it would probably be less money for you to not pay for insurance and instead pay out of pocket for your pregnancy due to the deductible and out of pocket max you would need to pay, however, it may also be a good idea to get insurance even though it is $500 a month in case you have complications. If you don't get insurance I would put the $500 you would spend on that into a savings account. See if your husband has an option where he can put money into a savings account that is used only for medical costs through his work. The money is pulled out before taxes and can be used toward hospital procedures, prescriptions, drs visits, etc.

To add to what Cassie186 stated about the OB bill being about $3000.00. This is true- it happened to me with my 1st pregnancy as I had changed jobs and was without insurance for the 1st 90 days. However, that $3,000.00 is only for the OB office; it covers all your visits, the doc to deliver the baby, and 2 ultrasounds. (this what my OB office explained to me) It does not cover your hospital stay, any medications or assistance the hospital provides, etc. And that $3,000.00 was broken down into 5 "easy payments" of $550.00 dollars after my deposit of $200.00. Um, $550.00 was not a monthly payment I could afford, lol! I got lucky though as I had severance package from my previous job that we used until my new insurance kicked in. I'd say, if you can qualify for state/county/city assistance, then go for it! We couldn't have qualified, but if I thought we could have, I would have done it.

My husband and I had the same problem. My job didn't offer coverage and he didn't have insurance in the first place. We got on pregnancy medicaid but because of the limit of gross income we had to downsize to a smaller place until the baby is born. After the birth, the pregnancy medicaid contuines to pay for the baby's visits for up to a year after the birth, despite your income. It does cover everything though, including the tests, delivery, and a circumcision if it suits you.

I have medicare and I was told I have to have something call Pregnancy Medicare. I'm scared that I would have to pay out of pocket for this and I just don't have one extra penny to spare.
