Good Morning,

I just have a questions to any one who is considering breastfeeding. Has any one heard of people having problems with breastfeeding like having an issue with the baby latching, sore nipples, bleeding, not producing enough milk?

I really want to breastfeed but I only have one person in my family that has and she told me it was horrible, she ended up bleeding and had to stop breast feeding because her nipples were dry and started to bleed. Im just asking for some advice on  what to do and how to succeed

I'm so happy to hear that you are considering breast feeding! I understand your concern because I was terrified to breast feed. Somehow all the horror stories set in instead of all the wonderful ones.

First, find out all you can about breast feeding so you are prepared. Here is a great website with loads of information www.llli.org/

Let the nurses at the hospital know that you want to breast feed and share your concerns, they are there to help you and they will encourage you, give you tips and let you know when to try and breast feed and see that baby is latching on correctly.

For some, it's not easy at first. It takes a little getting used to. The more you do it the easier it gets. Don't give up!

When is your baby due?

I'm always around if you ever want to talk :)

I was a little worried about breastfeeding my oldest at first too. It was a little bit difficult the first couple weeks, but it was a little bit uncomfortable because I found out I am like a dairy cow and overproduce easily, so I had a lot of engourgement. However, by the time we were through the postpartum phase everything was a breeze. I breastfed my daughter for a full year, and I'm grateful that I was able to. I know that there are many women who aren't able to, so I was just grateful that I could.

I never had any issues with my nipples becoming dry, cracked, or bleeding the entire time. I was a firm believer in lanolin. I especially liked the lansinoh brand the best. That stuff is awesome! And it works for so much more than just keeping your nipples soft and making breastfeeding more comfortable. It helps with diaper rash, chapped lips, sore super chapped hands, on cuts, etc. That stuff is seriously magic. As long as you have a tube of it handy, you can put some on right before you breastfeed in the beginning while you're getting used to breastfeeding and it will help you and the baby stay so much more comfortable!

Good luck :)

I heard many negative things about breast feeding also while I was pregnant but I was determined to do it anyways.  Luckily I never had even one issue with it.  My son latched on right away and I only had sore nipples for a few weeks but they never bled.  I would at least give it a try and see how it goes.  You can always stop it you need to.

I'm glad people are starting to breastfeed more. I can't wait to get started.

Ah! Breast feeding is the best thing you can do for your baby. Formulas don't have all the nutrients your baby needs. Of course all those problems could happen to any one during breast feeding, but you should try as hard as you can to breast feed. Some people just cant, but if you can go for it!
