Ladies (especially those who are already Mommies), when did/do you start looking for childcare? At 6 wks pregnant, it seems a little early IMO but my sister, who has a 2 yr old, highly suggests I start looking and/or getting on waiting lists now. My fear is jumping the gun a little and then having a mc. Not everyone in my family knows yet- just her- so I haven't even had time to really bask in, if any due to my crazy family life, excitement with my fam. Thoughts?

I know exactly what you are going through. I'm a military wife and in order to get my son into one of the child care facilities on base, I had to put him on a list the week I found out I was pregnant with him. Its always good to look around at place and get pricing. Childcare for infants is extremely expensive. And if you want them to go to a specific place like at a church or special daycare, they probably have waiting lists. Its always wise to start looking early because if you dont you might have to go somewhere where you arnt 100% comfortable.

I remember being at the park one day with my son when he was a year and half old and I got to talking to another Mom there and somehow the subject of daycare/preschool came up and she said "you have signed him up for the waiting list right"? I was shocked. I said well we don't plan on putting him in daycare/preschool until he's 3 so we have 1.5 years until then. She told me that she had signed up her child up when she was newly pregnant with him for this particular daycare/preschool...he was 2 and still on the waiting list! Honestly, in a perfect world I think it's way too early to have to put a child on a wait list for daycare before they are even born but that seems to be the norm at alot of places these days. Especially the highly sought after daycares/preschools. I totally understand not wanting to jump the gun though. I would probably wait a little bit into my 1st/2nd trimester but that's just me. :)

I am lucky enough that my mother-in-law runs a daycare out of her home, so I have a place for him/her when I go back to work and I know the baby is well taken care of.

My mom and grandma actually keep my son ( and will keep this one too) but yes, I have heard that the waiting lists are super long!! It wouldn't hurt to at least start looking at some places and get an idea of how long their lists are!

I took 3 months off work and didn't start looking until he was 2 months old. I went to all the different child care facilities close to home and they would tell us if they would have a slot open or not. We got him into the one we chose and there were no issues. But I think it depends on where you live too. If it's a large city you may want to look sooner. I hope you find child care you are comfortable with :)

I currently have 2 children and pregnant with #3 and finding a good daycare is very tough. It really is best to get on a waiting list ASAP. Also be very critical when looking. There are alot of places out there you wouldn't even want to take your dogs to.
