Ok so I know we have a couple months before we start thinking about this but what is everyone doing for baby food? I thought about making my own (need to research that a bit) so i wouldn't be wasting as much as using jar food, plus i know what Benjamin would be eating. I work full time so I don't want to devote a bunch of time to making food when i could be spending it with my little man. (great that sounds horrible lol but you guys hopefully know what i mean) What is everyone elses thoughts on this? Has anyone made there own food for there other kids or what is good that is off the market???

I did jarred food with my first, but want to do my own food this time. I don't work so I know I'll have the time, I just have to disapline myself to do it. I don't think there's anything wrong with using the jarred foods. You do what you have to do, not everyone has the time to make their own foods.

I will also be using the jar foods (gerber brand). Months ago I planned to make my own baby food, but now that I am back to work I just cant find the time. Anyways my son had his first taste of sweet potatos on thanksgiving, which was his 3 month birthday, lol - He only ate 2 bites, made a funny face and then started fussing for his bottle. I will wait another month before trying again :)

I'll be using jarred baby food. I'd love to make my own but honestly I just don't have the time. We also have a 2 year old and as sad as it is to say...it's just easier for me to buy it. I did buy organic baby food with our first and most likely will with Oliver also. I don't feel as guilty when it's organic...then again it's probably the same stuff and I'm just getting taken. Who knows! Oliver will go to daycare when he's about 5.5 months old so it's easier just to send in several containers of the pre-packaged stuff at the beginning of the week and then restock once it's gone. It's totally a personal preference...just like breasfeeding vs. bottle feeding. ~Julie

It's not food, but Ben has been constipated, and the thermometer thing didnt work, so i opted for the prune juice method, we are still waiting (we just tried it an hour ago) but the funny thing is, he LOVED it!!! HA! I dont plan on giving it to him often, just when he needs a little help going if its hard to go. But, I'm glad its at least not going to be a chore to give it to him! Oh, i gave it to him in a medicine dropper :)

Okay so I have a question for you ladies. I know by every mother its going to be different but when do babies get to actually eat food? I've been letting Bella just taste little things here and there and she loves it but with my other child being 5 I dont remember when they get jar food.

Brooke, I think somewhere around 6-8 months. I know cereal is 4-6 months and baby food a little after that. You'd think I'd remember being on my 4th and all. ;-)

Brooke, Christine is right about 6 - 8 months is when they're supposed to start trying foods. Right now their stomachs just aren't able to handle anything except breastmilk or formula, maybe some water although they're not supposed to have that yet either. Personally I think giving food early is what leads to food allergies later, but that's just my opinion. Talk with your ped if you have questions, thats what you pay them for.

I will probably do a mix of both jars and homemade baby food. I used jars for my other two, neither of them ever liked pears, not big on them now even:) I cook much healthier now though and use a lot more fresh fruits and veggies so I will probably try to blend up a serving or two in my magic bullet of whatever we are having and see how it goes. I'm game for saving a few bucks but I'd rather have more time and energy.
